COPOS Credit Union has been an integral part of Trinidad and Tobago’s financial landscape, showcasing an impressive journey marked by consistent growth and a steadfast dedication to its members.

1958

Our Humble Founding

Founded in 1958 with a humble $60 and twelve (12) members, the organization, initially known as the Farrell House Pumping Station Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited, has evolved into a prominent financial institution serving a diverse membership base. Early achievements included strategic initiatives to expand membership and invest in infrastructure. As the credit union’s membership grew, so did its name, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity.

1980s AND 90s

Strategic Restructuring

However, the late 1980s and early 1990s posed economic challenges. To navigate these hurdles, COPOS implemented a strategic restructuring plan, prioritizing technological advancements, staff training, and product diversification. This pivotal period laid the groundwork for the credit union’s future success.

2005

Mergers and Alliances

A significant milestone was reached in 2005 with the adoption of the current name, COPOS Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited, which symbolized its national reach. This achievement was facilitated by strategic mergers and alliances, including the acquisition of the O’Meara Industrial and Community Co-operative Credit Union Society Limited, as well as the establishment of a branch in Arima.

2009

National Reach

Additionally, a partnership with TUNICO Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited in 2009 led to the opening of a branch in Tobago, further expanding the credit union’s footprint across the nation. These efforts were complemented by the establishment of a branch in San Fernando in 2019, solidifying COPOS Credit Union’s presence in key areas of Trinidad and Tobago.
